Suggested Topics for Inclusion in INDIVIDUAL Objection Letters:

  • Be constructive! Acknowledge the need for WSCC's future waste processing capability, but emphasise the lack of public consultation so far, including the absence of canvassing locally for suggested alternative suitable sites, preferably selecting brownfield sites with better access and closer proximity to the sources of the future waste
  • Highlight the beauty of the sites and their countryside amenity value (and how you enjoy or use it), and what a loss it will be to the village communities. Give your personal stories.
  • Emphasise how the proposals are totally out of keeping with the current rural landscape, and the concerns over how these plans will lead to creeping urbanisation of the area. These plants could form the first steps to large-scale concreting over of further woodlands and pastures, and the facilitation of major building programmes in the countryside
  • The key points are that the letter needs to demonstrate the unsuitability of the proposed sites because of
    • Concerns over the impact and encroachment of increased traffic volumes of heavy lorries on local footpaths, bridlepaths, cycle routes, roads and lanes, as well as commenting on the disruption, pollution and safety aspects of such additional vehicles
    • The visual impact imposing such facilities on Greenfield locations will have, particularly on the upward sloping exposed areas of the Hickstead site
    • Health and quality of life concerns arising from the different forms of waste processing mechanisms the WSCC proposes for the sites (e.g. pollutants and dioxins from the 60+metre chimney proposed to take waste away from the incinerator used to burn waste; incessant noise from concrete crushers and lorries)
    • How the plans contradict the  MSDC long stated policy of maintaining the greenbelt area and providing a habitat to many species of wildlife
  • Ask for confirmation of receipt of your letter or e-mail
  • WSCC should be working for and with us on these issues, not imposing its requirements on us!

Read about the health effects of incineration and think about whether you want one of these in your village!
